I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve added a final piece to my portfolio for the next year: I’m officially the Theologian-in-Residence with Geneva at the University of Iowa.
Geneva is…
Dedicated to bringing churches, campus ministries, local organizations, and university of Iowa together for the common good.
Committed to open dialogue about the big questions of life (this is where I come in!)
A place to integrate faith across university disciplines and departments.
Geneva is part of the Consortium for Christian Study Centers, which is a network serving at the intersection of the local church and universities across the country.
If you want to see what other Christian study centers look like, check out Anselm House at the University of Minnesota, and Upper House at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
Over the last decades, Geneva has hosted leading intellectuals at the intersection of faith, higher education, and the common good, including NT Wright, David Brooks, Sir John Polkinghorne, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and Bryan Stevenson.
What I will be doing:
As the Theologian-in-Residence, my portfolio will be comprised of two things this fall.
First, I will be hosting live Field and Faith Forums, where I will engage scholars and community leaders about the intersection of their faith and their unique vocation. The first session will be next week on Friday Sept 18 at Noon CST. I will be interviewing Dr. Fred Skiff, Professor Emeritus of Physics at the University of Iowa, about chaos, order, and mystery in science and Christianity. The event will also be LIVE on Substack, so keep an eye out for the link later this week.
Second, I will be hosting an “Ask Anything” night at Geneva’s location called The Space (located at 20 E Market Street in Old Brick, right smack in downtown Iowa City on U Iowa’s campus).
The gathering will be open to young adults who want the freedom to ask honest (and maybe a little unhinged!) questions about faith, theology, the Bible, church, and life.
In sum, I’m aiming to be a resource for other university ministries like Chi Alpha, Navigators, The Salt Company, and more—providing a space for Christian intellectual formation.
