RE: Church politics. A couple of things that have helped me about CP: 1) politics is a means of socializing/resolving conflict in healthy ways (functional); 2) hence, politics is not always a 4-letter word; 3) but, sometimes it certainly is (dysfunctional), and naive to deny; and 4) Because people differ along an innumerable number of variables, where's there's people, there's politics. Both types of politics appear evident among the church fathers (and in the AG). I'm committed to taking the higher road in search of Truth, but the Spirit must help me do this consistently...for what it's worth, that and a dollar.
This is a really good point. You're right that I shouldn't always denigrate "politics" as a four letter word. I guess I should have said something more like "would that we could always have calm, mutual understanding, and good faith arguments with each other" :)
